Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of electrical products are regulated by regional or national authorities. Each product group has mostly specific EMC standards. For household appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus well known standards are CISPR 14-1 (or EN 5504-1), and CISPR 14-2 (EN 55014-2).

CISPR 14-1 (or EN 5504-1) is defining the emission requirements for household appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus. CISPR 14-2 (EN 55014-2) is defining the immunity requirements for the products which are under this standard.

You can check the scopes of these two standards whether an electrical product is under the scopes of these two standards.

After ensuring your product is under any of these standards, your product has to be tested according to CISPR 14-1 (EN 55014-1) and/or CISPR 14-2 (EN 55014-2). Tests can be either be performed by yourself in your own test laboratory. If your laboratory is equipped with CISPR and IEC compliant instruments and test chambers, you will be able to perform EMC tests of your product. If you do not have any EMC laboratory equipment, you have to get this service from a third party EMC laboratory. Third party EMC labs can be either non-accredited or accredited. Both can be used to perform EMC tests provided that all tests are done according to CISPR 14-1 (EN 55014-1) and/or CISPR 14-2 (EN 55014-2).
